AI receptionist vs voicemail
Voicemail asks the caller to do the work, and most will not — they hang up and ring the next company on the list. An AI receptionist has an actual conversation, gets the caller's name, number and problem, and sends it to you. The difference is not convenience; it is whether the call turns into a customer at all.
The problem with voicemail is the caller, not the technology
Somebody with water coming through a ceiling is not going to leave a message and wait. They have your competitor's number open in the next tab. Voicemail is not a safety net for that call, it is where the call goes to die.
And the messages that are left are often useless — a name half-said, a number too fast to write down, no clue what it was about. You return the call blind, and half the time you are ringing somebody who has already booked someone else.

Common questions
Do people actually leave voicemails?
Far fewer than businesses assume, and least of all when the problem is urgent — which is exactly when the job is worth most. A caller with an emergency rings the next number rather than leaving a message.
Is this just voicemail transcription?
No. Transcription still requires the caller to leave a message. The difference here is that somebody answers and has a conversation, so there is something to transcribe.
Can I still use my voicemail?
Yes. Your phone rings first and nothing about your own line changes; the AI only picks up the calls you do not.
