AI receptionists, explained

Can an AI receptionist answer after hours?

Yes. An AI receptionist answers at three in the morning exactly as it does at three in the afternoon, including weekends and holidays, and it costs the same either way. For service businesses this is usually where most of its value sits, because emergencies do not keep office hours.

The after-hours call is often the best one

A burst pipe at ten at night, a furnace that has quit in a freeze, an alarm panel sounding at three in the morning. Those callers are not price-shopping. They want somebody to come, they are willing to pay emergency rates, and they will ring down the list until a human voice answers.

A voicemail greeting at that hour reads as closed. The caller is dialling the next number before the beep finishes.

You still get to sleep

Answering the call and waking you are different things. The receptionist takes the details and sends the summary; you decide in the morning what was worth getting up for, and the ones that were not are still there as leads rather than as missed calls.

If a call genuinely is an emergency, you find that out from a text on your phone rather than from a voicemail nobody left.

No extra charge for unsociable hours

A staffed answering service normally charges more for overnight and weekend cover, which is fair enough — someone is awake. Software is not being paid overtime, so the price is the same at any hour.

Common questions

Does it work at weekends and on holidays?

Yes — every hour of every day, at the same price. There is no separate out-of-hours rate.

Will it wake me up for every call?

No. It answers the call and sends you a written summary. What you do about it, and when, is your decision.

Can it tell me which after-hours calls are urgent?

It asks the caller what the problem is and puts that in the summary, so you can see at a glance which one needs a call back tonight rather than in the morning.
